The city of Rome was probably founded by small groups of farmers settled in the tenth century BC on the Palatine hill and in the adjacent areas. In 1870, when the Italian bersaglieres entered the city through the Breccia of Porta Pia, Rome was proclaimed capital, and is now regarded as a great European capital.
Mark Kostabi was born in Los Angeles in 1960 from immigrants Estonians but he grew up in a city in California. In 1982 he moved to New York and from 1984 on, Mark Kostabi became a reference figure within the artistic movement of East Village.
Milan was probably founded in the sixth century BC by the Celts when it was just a small village called Mediolanum. With the advent of the Roman Empire, Milan became the capital of the West but in the next centuries it suffered pillages and declines. It is now recognized as the largest commercial and industrial Italian centre.
Botero was born in 1932 in Medellín, a town in the Colombian Andes. At 16 he exhibited his watercolour paintings for the first time and with the passing of the years, Botero is destined to become one of the greatest contemporary painters and sculptors.
Mario Schifano, born in 1934, was an undisputed genius of Italian painting whose works carried out in the sixties, are still today incredibly topical. Among the most important works there are the series dedicated to advertising trademarks, flowers and nature.
